Non Prescription Colored Contacts
67Colored contact lenses can improve your looks and confidence. Ever wanted to have those rare green eyes? It's really simple, just get some colored lenses. But what if you don't need contacts or glasses in the first place? Again, not a problem because color contacts are available with no power. There are a ton of colors and designs so you can get the look you want.
You Still Need An Eye Exam
Just like shoes, one contact size does not fit all. You will need to get your eyes examined by an Optometrist to determine what size, base curve and material will be best for your eyes. You will also need to have a follow up appointment to ensure that the lenses fit properly and you like how they feel. A lens that doesn't fit right will cause irritation.
Enhancers or Opaques?
There are two main types of colored contacts, those for people with light eyes and for people with dark colored irises. People with light colored eyes like blue and green can wear enhancing lenses which are more transparent and work with the light to "enhance" the current color of your eyes. For people with dark eyes, this doesn't work so well and it looks weird because the natural color of your iris overpowers the contacts. In this case you will need to wear opaque lenses which are like wigs for your iris. They don't let your natural color show through and mask them with the color you choose.
Brands
There are many brands available. It is best to go with a trusted name for more common colors. When you get into funky designs like cat-eye look and more stage type applications this is when you will have to choose from what is available. Acuvue has Acuvue 2 Enhancers and Acuvue 2 Opaques as their options. Freshlook colors are another common brand. Many of the bigger names will often offer a free pair or box. You will still need an eye exam beforehand. Just send in your prescription (even if it is 0.00) to receive the coupon or free lenses.
If you put forth the little effort to get an exam you can get some pretty cool colored lenses and change your eye color every day of the week if you want. Feeling feisty? Try a nice green lens. Find a color or colors that express your personality.
